103-Year-Old Man Marries 27-Year-Old Woman

Arranged marriages are more baffling when the couple has a huge age gap. For instance, back in 2017, several media sites featured the story of a 71-year-old woman who married a 16-year-old boy. Another is the case of a 103-year-old man who married a woman 66 years his junior. While these kinds of stories continue to garner controversy, arranged marriages are still rampant across the world.

Recently, several Indonesian news outlets confirmed that 103-year-old Puang Katte, a Dutch colonial war veteran, married a 27-year-old woman named Indo Alang in the District of Siwa, South Sulawesi. “Yes, it’s true, the was held this afternoon at the bride’s house on Jalan Gallico street,” Ayu Anggreni Muchtar, a relative of the groom, said.

According to World of Buzz, the leading online publication in Malaysia which features the latest and most trending news from Malaysia and the world, Katte met Alang while she was going through a break-up after finding out that her ex-boyfriend was cheating on her. He comforted her and this eventually turned into intimacy. The young woman was reportedly charmed by his wisdom and experience in life.

The next thing they knew, Alang was already pregnant. This is when they decided to get married. A video of the wedding shows the old groom supported by a young man as he staggers down the aisle to meet his young bride.

Reports state that Katt had actually watched his young bride grow up since she was a child. Her family even used to be invited to his house during festive periods to celebrate together. According to Oddity Central, an online site that features bizarre events, unique travel destinations, weird inventions, freaky characters, odd art, and many more, the dowry paid by Katte to his bride’s family was five million rupiahs ($343) and a gold ring.

Photos and videos of the couple and their wedding have been circulating all over social media, including Facebook and Twitter, for weeks now, sparking both outrage and humorous comments.
