Steven Canals, co-creator of the incredibly successful and visually stunning “Pose,” has signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
According to online news site Deadline, creative affairs president Carolyn Cassidy of 20th Century Fox TV saw fit to sign with Canals because they believe he is “the embodiment of the original voice” they are “always looking for.”
“I couldn’t be happier that he chose 20th to develop his new projects and feel extremely lucky to be in business with this gifted and talented writer whose storytelling is as specific as it is universally relatable,” says Cassidy.
And what a talented writer he really is. Since working on “Pose,” the show has already caught the eye of the Golden Globes and the Emmys, and has already bagged a Peabody Award. It is also lauded as a groundbreaking project because it features the most number of trans actors in a scripted series.
Canals tells Deadline that he feels incredibly-honored to have such supportive people helping him with such a socially relevant show such as “Pose.”
“For this Bronx bred storyteller, I’m thrilled by this new chapter. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined having supportive co-conspirators like Dana Walden, Craig Hunegs, Carolyn Cassidy, Howard Kurtzman and their teams. I’m grateful to be partnering with 20th to continue creating original content that centers diverse voices and moves the industry’s need toward more inclusion and equity,” Canals says.
“Pose” features the largely hidden world of the ballroom culture in the '80s where members of the community felt free in a time when they were discriminated the most. The series tackles the pressing matters that many in the community faced at the time, the underground ball culture, and the Trump-era changes.
The series has already run for two seasons and will be releasing its third season this year.
