Despite the controversy that surrounded “Captain Marvel,” it was still a hugely successful movie under Marvel. And now, for those who have loved her and her story, “Captain Marvel” is coming back for more as it has been released that there is a “Captain Marvel” sequel in the works.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, a source for news in the entertainment industry, the script will be under the guidance of Megan McDonnell, the brilliant mind behind “WandaVision,” another Marvel-based series.
Aside from the release that “Captain Marvel” is confirmed to have a sequel, there are not many details revealed as to what the story is all about. The only information that comes close to any kind of possible plot point in the story is that it will be set in the 1990s, which was also the original movie’s “present day.”
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, both writers and directors of the first Captain Marvel, will not be attached to this one. However, their talents will still be utilized in the Marvel Universe, considering they will still be on board directing a Disney+ series of yet unknown Marvel household characters.
While this news may come as a surprise to those not following closely on Marvel plans, those who had the pleasure of seeing Kevin Feige at the July San Diego Comic-Con already got the idea that Marvel might tap into the Captain Marvel story and expand it some more, brought about by its insane popularity.
Interestingly, some speculated initially if it was true, since Feige only technically “blurted out” this news at Disney’s Hall H panel seemingly in jest.
His exact words were:
“We didn’t even mention that we’re making Black Panther 2 and we didn’t mention that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is coming. We didn’t even have time to talk about Captain Marvel 2, by the way.”
