There is no in-between when watching this fursuit fantasy in the cinemas. There is only love and hate for this thing, only yes or no as you sit there in the theaters trying to understand what you’re seeing. But for all its weirdness, singer-turned-actor for the movie Taylor Swift says she loves it all.
In a report by Vanity Fair, the singer-songwriter talked candidly about working on Tom Hooper’s “Cats” with a very fond feeling in her heart. She was interviewed by Variety when she talked about the movie and honestly said that she simply enjoyed the experience of working with the “weird-ass movie.”
Sporting a British accent to play Bombalurina in the film, Swift says her experience was not necessarily the worst.
“I’m not gonna retroactively decide that it wasn’t the best experience. I never would have met Andrew Lloyd Webber or gotten to see how he works, and now he’s my buddy. I got to work with the sickest dancers and performers. No complaints.”
This is amidst so many people and critics commenting on the movie for being strange. When it came out the first time, critics were quick to call out so many things that made the whole experience a bit odd; some of these statements were well-intentioned humorous descriptions of the slowly-escalating horror that was basically humans dancing around in very skin tight fursuits aided by CGI, while some were just not feeling it.
What Swift says she is more thankful for when she worked on this film was the opportunity to finally work with Hooper. She also shares in the interview that she had auditioned to work for a film by Hooper, which was the more successful “Les Miserables” where Swift lost her role to Samantha Barks for the role of Eponine.
