Celebrity life is elevated by those of us who don’t live it. Obviously, celebrities have more privilege and power than most of us and their well-off lives mean they enjoy more perks than the average person, but have we really pulled back the curtain on what celebrity life is really like behind the scenes?
Recently, model, TV personality, and author Chrissy Teigen stepped up to the plate to tell us what really goes on in celebrity life behind the scenes. She even dedicated a couple of hours to answer questions from curious people about how life really is for a celebrity like Teigen. On the other hand, well-known media mogul Oprah Winfrey shared some of the downsides to the kind of privileged life that celebrities live.
Chrissy Teigen: The Perks of Being a Celebrity
Teigen’s home life has been a blessing for her and husband John Legend, so Teigen decided to get real with some fan questions about what her home life is really like.
Teigen answered the curious questions of some of her 12 million followers and gave out truthful snippets of what celebrity life is like when we pull back the curtain. Although, if not all, at least some of them.
The impromptu Q&A began when Teigen quote-retweeted a tweet from someone on Twitter asking if celebrities “have junk drawers where they throw random cords and pens.” Teigen then wrote on the quote-retweeted post, “It’s celebrity question asking time! Ask me, your favorite A-list celebrity anything you would like to know about being a super huge A-list celebrity.”

Obviously, the tone of the post skews sarcastic, but numerous curious Twitter denizens took part in it anyway, and Teigen was only so glad to share a behind the scenes peek into the celeb life. The tweets, which were compiled in a Business Insider article, showed fans asking her really curious questions.
One person was curious about how Teigen and her family travel from place to place, and she talked about a membership-only terminal located “a mile from the airport” where they are then given “the same security privately.” In this regard, Teigen acknowledges her privilege, but for the sake of honesty, still answered the question.
According to another article by CNBC.com, with different tweets highlighted, someone asked about how Teigen pays for bills. She answered that she employs a business accountant who “handles everything and sends me summaries of my spending/income.” For house payments, someone asked if they paid for the place all at once and Teigen answered that they did it in payments.
Oprah Winfrey: The Dark Side of Fame
Despite all these amazing benefits and perks, there are also hurdles that celebrities go through that people fail to acknowledge. A celebrity is still human even if they accrue more wealth than others, which is why Oprah Winfrey also talked about the mental health crisis that also affects those in the industry.
In a report by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, a source for celebrity news, Winfrey shared that even at the top of her game, she felt that there were moments during which she needed to “step back and take care of herself.” This came at a time when her network, OWN, wasn’t doing so well with the ratings.
At the time, she was under so much pressure that the network wasn’t succeeding, and it took a toll on her.
Like Teigen, she got real with what she felt at the moment, sharing to People Magazine, “After 25 years of being No. 1, I had become accustomed to success. I didn’t expect failure. I was tested and I had to dig deep.”

Because of this test, Winfrey went on to figure out what counted as a well-lived life. Celebrities, for all their privileges, are still people who still experience things like mental health problems the same way as -- sometimes in worse ways than -- many of us.
For her, there are five ingredients that you have to have in order for your life to be considered well-lived.
“What I know for sure: clarity, passion, commitment, reverence, and balance define a life well-lived,” she says.
In addition to these five things, Winfrey also holds fast to the scripture and has shared her favorite verse, Romans 12:2, a verse that Winfrey uses to recalibrate her thoughts and motivations in life and remind her “to continually renew her mind.”
For the coming year, Winfrey plans to continue with her advocacy for living a better life as she hosts a wellness tour titled “2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus” from January 4 to March 7. During the tour, Winfrey said her goal will be to “preach the gospel of health and wellness.” She also plans to do the tour alongside prominent and successful women in the industry such as Lady Gaga, Tina Fey, Julianne Hough, and Michelle Obama.
