Bear, Final Dog Left in A Shelter, Finally Found a Forever Home

All pets need is someone who would love them as much as they love, and Bear of the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) shelter is the last dog left in a kennel where he has yet to be adopted.

According to The Epoch Times, a multi-language newspaper founded in 2000, Bear has been “overlooked” for so long that he had been in the shelter for two and a half years already.

In an interview, DAWG staffer Kelley LaBonty told WXYZ:

“All of our shelter dogs that had been in a kennel for quite some time got adopted, except for one little poor dog, and his name is Bear.”

It’s not like DAWG hasn’t been doing anything about it. DAWG’s Facebook wall is filled with the Rhodesian ridgeback pit bull mix adorable mug, constantly being endorsed to anyone who might be interested in finally taking him home.

According to The Epoch Times, DAWG had Bear ever since he was seven months old, during which he was picked up and rescued in Flint. Prior to his residence in DAWG, his previous foster family had to give him up because of a family moving in, further showing just how much of a hard-knock life this lonely dog has had.

LaBonty talks affectionately of the little dog.

“He loves kids, he loves men and women. He’s very playful, and he loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He knows his basic commands.” But it seems that even then, Bear was having a hard time finding his forever home.

“Our goal is to find him a home with no other pets, but that’s hard to do. We’ve taken him to hundreds of adoption events over the years, and he just gets overlooked every time,” LaBonty explained. These adoption events were as heartbreaking as looking at Bear sitting by his lonesome in his kennel.

In one adoption event, he was driven to the fenced home of a family with kids only to be rejected once there. After two more failed attempts, someone finally called up DAWG to adopt the sweet Bear
