Viral Pole Challenge Has People Literally in Tangles

Every now and then, viral challenges crop up in fast-paced social media sites like TikTok. The viral quality often does not account for whether or not the challenge is potentially dangerous, just that it’s something of a hit at the moment. In some cases, the challenges are just silly or deceptive, and this new pole challenge is a mix of both.

According to Daily Mail UK, a British news source, the challenge has recently been testing people’s ability to stretch and is proving to be quite difficult to do. Numerous videos of the challenge on social media show how it requires people to straddle a pole and sit down in a cross-legged position. Once this position is achieved, the challenge takers should then use their upper body strength to pull themselves up to a standing position.

Sounds fairly easy, right? Not really.

In a slew of hilarious videos, those who took the challenge have had mixed results on how they are supposed to get out of the position. This is because having the legs tangled and underneath the buttocks means that the legs are technically out of commission.

With the position of the straddle, too, it is nearly impossible to uncross one’s legs when the hips are locked on the pole.

A workman in Darlington tried the challenge on a pole in a construction site and took a video of the whole ordeal. Eventually, unable to unknot his legs, he asked his friends to lift him up the length of the pole instead and untangle his legs manually.

According to the people seen in the video lifting their friend up, their friend was “adamant he would be able to get himself out of it.” When he turned out to be horribly wrong, they just helped him back up. Before they did, though, one of the friends hilariously waved goodbye to his struggling friend, saying “See you tomorrow!” as he walked away.
