Hollywood is filled with rich people.
They are filled with the few of us who have so much money than they know what to do with, and their earnings only keep reaching for the stars thanks to their line of work. But even among the rich’s playground exist those who are significantly richer, whether it be because of their talents or simply the value of the things they’ve created. Here are Hollywood’s richest personalities.
Net Worth: $5.4 billion
From his ideas not being acknowledged to them being part of one of the most successful (and equally controversial) franchises in the world, George Lucas truly did only go up since Star Wars. His Star Wars franchise is so invariably connected to him, too, that some of his other movies practically fall by the wayside, but according to a corresponding report by business magazine Business Insider, it was actually the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney that generated most of his money -- and now the continuous advertising and content creation attached to the franchise.
On top of working on Star Wars all those years ago, most people don’t realize that he was also attached to “The Land Before Time” movies, which he served as executive producer on, and even wrote “American Graffiti.”
Initially, Lucas’ dream was to become a racecar driver, but it was short-lived as he had gotten into a car accident and nearly died, so he turned his attention to filmmaking instead.
Net Worth: $3.7 billion
A little like Lucas’ road to riches, Spielberg’s wealth was also helped along by the acquisition of his DreamWorks Animation, reports USA Today. Not to mention Spielberg’s influence in the world of cinema puts him up there as one of the most esteemed directors of the generation. His work has inspired so many other aspiring directors, which also easily made him one the top-grossing directors of all time.
His recent work on “Ready Player One” may be a far cry from his classics “Jaws,” “E.T.”, and “Jurassic Park,” but he’s still out and about making money off of other endeavors. Forbes states that “most of Spielberg’s fortune comes from his films, but he has also profited from his role as a consultant for Universal theme parks and the sale of DreamWorks Animation to NBCUniversal for $3.8 billion in 2016.”

Net Worth: $2.8 billion
As a household name in Hollywood, Oprah Winfrey is known and respected far and wide, and with good reason. She became a media mogul because of a talk show and is still going strong in her endeavors. She has an investment in Weight Watchers, which is about 8%. According to news organization South China Morning Post, Oprah is also the richest woman in Hollywood, followed only by Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling and Kylie Jenner.
Her career began when she worked as a news anchor and then went on to host the iconic “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” In Forbes' estimate, most of the money that Oprah makes is sourced from her show’s profits, which is now $2 billion.
Oprah also has a $2.6 billion fortune attached to her television network, OWN, which she owns 25.5% of, and also gets some greens from her deal with Apple TV+. She’s prominent in the media as well, having gone on to voice various characters in movies like “Charlotte’s Web” and “The Princess and the Frog.”
Net Worth: $900 million
There’s a lot of argument as to whether or not Kylie deserves the recognition she gets from already coming from wealth and privilege. Nonetheless, her riches and their connection to her multi-million dollar cosmetics line is obvious. According to USA Today, Kylie’s success is the reason she is the only 21-year-old in this list of otherwise wisened, successful directors and TV personalities.
Already, her cosmetics line “has made more than $630 million since its launch two years ago,” and since Kylie is still keeping it alive, it would probably continuously be worth more and more in the future. The South China Morning Post writes that Kylie’s skyrocketing success also made her super successful at such a young age that she managed to unseat Mark Zuckerberg as “the youngest self-made billionaire in the world.”
Again, “self-made” here is up for interpretation.
Net Worth: $900 million
Also at $900 million, Jay-Z is himself a rather wise investor, owning stakes in Armand de Brignac champagne and D'Ussé cognac. His music is also a source of his wealth, as Business Insider adds that Jay-Z “pocketed approximately $500 million from his 14 No. 1 albums before taxes.” Like fellow rap world icon Kanye West, Jay-Z has a clothing line, though he sold it to Iconix for $204 million in 2007.
He released “Tidal” in 2015, a streaming platform he aims to use to compete with the top two streaming services today. Tidal is now worth $600 million, after Sprint bought a 33% stake in 2017. As for Jay-Z’s own stake in the company, it is at $100 million. He also has his hands dipped in Uber and some real estate ventures.
