Final Fantasy 7 is said to be the most hyped video game remake of all time, exciting fans of the video game no end. However, it has been announced that it will only be for the PlayStation 4 when it is initially released on March 3, 2020. Xbox One owners need not worry though, as a new box art for the remake was recently uploaded on Square Enix’s site and it showed that the game might not be a PS4 exclusive after all.
According to CNET, an American media website that publishes reviews, news, articles, blogs, podcasts, and videos on technology and consumer electronics globally, the game’s publisher, Square Enix, said that the Final Fantasy 7 remake has a timed exclusive until March 3, 2021 for PS4 users. So it is expected that after that date, other game platforms will have their own version of the game. Although when the rumors about the Xbox One release erupted within the gaming community, an Square Enix spokesperson denied an Xbox One release, saying that they have no plans yet for other platforms.
The FF7 remake is just the first part of a multi-release of the iconic PlayStation game. It was reported that the game will be split into multiple Final Fantasy 13-sized releases, but they haven’t confirmed how many parts of the remake will be split into. IGN, an online source for video games and other entertainment news, mentioned in their website that the timing of the artwork upload seemed odd considering that The Game Awards will be taking place soon, and it could be a great opportunity to make the big reveal then.
Engadget, a multilingual technology blog network with daily coverage of gadgets and consumer electronics, shared on their website that Square Enix confirmed that they are underway on the development of the second chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. This confirmation came with new screenshots and details about what their loyal players can expect from the first chapter.
The remake, according to reports, looks like a highly expanded version of the original video game. “Though they aren't the main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar,” said director Tetsuya Nomura. The first chapter of the game is said to take place in the cyberpunk city of Midgar, but players will have to brace themselves for some new antagonists in their beloved FF7 city.
The original Final Fantasy 7 spent its early hours within Midgar before booting its players into the wider world of the Final Fantasy universe. GameSpot, a video gaming website, shared an interview with FF7 remake producer Yoshinori Kitase, who said, “We can’t reveal many details about this, but just to give you a bit of background on it, before we started working on this, we knew it was going to be a large amount of content.” He also added that doing the whole story is a huge thing, and they realized its pressure when they started to plan out the plot for the first time.

Aside from the fact that the remake has an upgraded environment, players will have to watch out for new antagonists. When one thinks of Midgar’s final boss, the first thing that will come to mind is the M.O.T.O.R., but for the Final Fantasy 7 remake, there will be new bosses that will make things a lot more interesting. They will add excitement to the story and, of course, new challenges to overcome.
Aside from the new bosses to defeat, Square Enix also highlighted another new Summon called Chocobo and Moogle. Techspot, an entertainment website, explained that this “dynamic duo” is capable of delivering a multi-faceted attack that consists of an energy blast and a stampede to trample foes.
The remake is also reported to be littered with new side activities and mini-games that you can play if you need a break from the main story. This includes a fancy a game of darts and a thrilling motorcycle chase on futuristic streets of Midgar.
The Second Chapter Is on the Way
When Nomura announced that they will be splitting the remake into separate episodes, it stirred controversy among the FF7 fans. But despite this, the popularity and renown of the original remained while everyone waits for its 2020 version’s release.
Even though the team behind the upcoming remake can’t say anything more about the release of the remake, they hinted that they are still fleshing out that process. It was also reported on Forbes, an American business magazine, that fans can expect the second episode of the Final Fantasy 7 remake immediately after the launch of the first episode.
Fans who have been waiting for a long time since its 2015 announcement should be patient a little more because, from the looks of it, their long wait will truly be worth it. ]
