Remember the days when a lot of people spent their time on their phone or tablet playing Candy Crush Saga? It also used to be when we send a message to our friends and acquaintances to ask them to send us additional energy so we can finish a particularly difficult stage in the game. Those were simple times, back in 2014. Since then, technology has made further developments by leaps and bounds, making mobile phones more advanced because of AI integration and spawning high-tech games that before would only be playable on gaming consoles. These games have overshadowed Candy Crush that many are thinking that it might be close to its demise.

But those people have another think coming.

According to an article published by Pocket Gamer, an online resource for the gaming community on mobile, Candy Crush remains one of the most played games in the US. The mobile game has made more than $2 billion in lifetime revenue based on a study conducted by Sensor Tower, an organic user acquisition service that helps app developers grow their audience using App Store optimization and app marketplace intelligence.

The matching game has grossed $1.1 billion or 55% of total revenues in the US alone. It has also accumulated more than $450 million during the third quarter of 2019. The game won the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Mobile Game in 2016.

It’s Extremely Easy

Candy crush saga allows players to move around rows of candies on their phone screen eliminating groups of the same types of candies by swapping them to make a match of three or more. As simple as the gameplay is, it is quite immersive, especially for older gamers. Gaming Shift, a website that provides articles about video games, mentioned in their article that this simple yet very addicting game made an average of $4.2 million dollars a day in 2018, and the amount number is due to all the grandmas, aunts, and uncles, mums and dads who enjoyed the game so much that they were willing to spend for in-game items.

The demographics of this game say a lot about its very simple mechanics so that virtually everyone can play it all day. It also has a very intuitive tutorial with icons and achievement notifications that are eye-catching because of its polished UI.

The Guardian, a British daily newspaper, said in their article that this is great for casual gamers who just want to while away their time using their phones as they waited in line during a commute or at a government office to transact business. Because it is playable in short sessions, it can be a great game for those who are always on the go. However, if you choose to play Candy Crush at a different level, you may try it using your PC or consoles where you can play it on a larger screen.

Progressive Levels

Candy Crush Saga can really be an addicting game as oftentimes, you will feel the need to complete a specific level during the day. Although it doesn’t say much about a person’s skills, the game is created to make one feel comfortable playing the game with its simple mechanics and great visual style. However, it is not so easy that you will start to get bored in no time as it offers literally hundreds of levels that can be achieved one level at a time.

Later stages will have grids that are more complex, and there will be new types of candies. Of course, when you get to these levels, it means that you have developed some form of mastery in the game. The experience of finishing new levels will make you realize that you have put a lot of hours into the game and it will be harder to get away from it, much less uninstall it from your phone. Initially, you will think that the game is too easy and is just a great way to pass the time, but as you progress, you will find yourself competing with yourself as you think that you must beat the next level.

There are also unique mechanics in the game that makes it more interesting. There is a striped candy that clears an entire row and a sprinkled candy that has the capability to remove everything of the same color. Candy Crush Saga also has time levels and ingredient levels that add complexity and make the level progression harder over time.

Enticing Artwork

Candy Crush Saga has a superb UI. Most mainstream casual games use simple yet creative artwork and stylized elements in order to attract more players. When it comes to the design and interface of Candy Crush, its level of graphics can be compared to higher-level games such as Call of Duty, but minus the complex controls and story. For Candy Crush, its whole premise is based on simplicity and accessibility so that it can be enjoyed by players from different age groups.

The game also lets players track important things like achievements through timely notifications and offers little pop-ups that show words of encouragement.

To say that Candy Crush is a great way for people of ages to while away the time is simply an understatement.
