The animation series by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, ‘Rick & Morty,’ is reported to be streaming on HBO Max. Animation World Network, an online publishing group that specializes in resources for animators, reported on their website that the incoming streaming app has announced that they will stream the first three seasons of the hit animated comedy.
The announcement comes right after they broke the news that the media giant signed a $500 million deal. This deal allows HBO Max to have the exclusive US streaming rights to the South Park series run; this also includes the 23 seasons of the show, plus additional new ones that are yet to air.
Rick & Morty
Rick & Morty is a hit animated comedy about a sociopathic genius scientist who travels with his timid grandson as they go through insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. When it was launched on Adult Swim in 2013, it became an immediate hit, but it went on a two-year hiatus. Jump forward to May 2018, Roiland and Harmon managed to get a 70-episode series order for the show.
It was also reported that HBO Max will launch the fourth season on Adult Swim and HBO Max as well. The future seasons feature at least 70 episodes, and the Emmy-winning hit series will be launched in the United States in May 2020. Rick & Morty became the no.1 comedy with millennials in 2017, and it also became popular in television, digital, gaming, live streaming, retail and fan experiences.
“‘Rick and Morty’ exploded onto the scene in 2013 and quickly drew a legion of rabid followers from both critics and young fans,” said Kevin Reilly, a chief content officer for HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, TruTV. He said that the jokes that this show features come naturally and fast. This makes the animation series the perfect result of an insanely smart comedy concoction.
Variety, an American media company owned by Penske Media Corporation, mentioned on their website that the hit series will return for its fourth season on November 10.
Aside from Rick & Morty, Hollywood Reporter, an American digital and print magazine which focuses on the Hollywood film, television, and entertainment industries, shared that HBO Max landed the massive 23 seasons for South Park, a Comedy Central animation hit series. It is said that the deal is worth as much as $500 million.
HBO Max unveiled that the company will have the exclusive domestic rights to Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated hit. This successful deal included three more seasons of South Park Series, which was produced by South Park Digital Studios.
“South Park is unequivocally among the best -- setting the satirical gold standard, with a consistent finger on the comedy pulse,” said Reilly, praising HBO Max's new acquisition. He added that audiences have felt connected to the show's characters, such as Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny, for over 20 years. Reilly is also looking forward to introducing these characters to new audiences on HBO Max.
South Park had been a no. 1 prime cable comedy series for young adults. Meanwhile, the animated series will start streaming in June 2020. The new episodes will be launched on Comedy Central first, and it will debut later on the streaming sites after 24 hours.
