Christmas is just around the corner, but for this Californian drunk Santa, the holiday season came a little early. According to a report by Fox News, an American conservative pay television news channel, Brea Police nabbed a festive-looking, not sober Santa Claus.
Reports say that the police officers found the man inside his own car at around 7 am. The man, who was not identified by the authorities, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both. The police immediately turned to social media to share a "message" written by the Californian Drunk Santa, whom they called the “Drunk Santa Suit Criminal.”

The letter read, “Dear Santa, I’m sorry, I stole your red suit. I was drunk and made some poor choices. I know it’s only October. And it’s hot. Too hot for this suit. But I was drunk. Poor choices.” The letter was signed,“Sincerely, Drunk Santa Suit Criminal.” The officers have not decided on the man's punishment other than, perhaps, a lump of coal from Santa Claus himself.

However, many netizens believe that what the police did on social media was unsolicited. The media website New York Daily News reported that one user wrote, “The spirit of Christmas isn’t about publicly shaming those who have made a poor choice in life.” Some users expressed their disappointment in the officers, considering that they are supposed to be serving and protecting the citizens, including criminals. They believe that they shouldn't have resorted to publicly shaming the drunk Santa.
“Ironic. The ‘poor choice’ here was in BPD lack of poor judgment to post a photo of a man (not booking photo) at his expense, eliciting all these types of comments of publicly shaming and scrutiny,” one Facebook user wrote.
