Lizzo Pushes Back On Plagiarism Accusation on Truth Hurts; Credits Twitter User Who Inspired Her Instead

Lizzo is at the top of her game right now.

“Truth Hurts,” so far everyone’s badass anthem, is still enjoying its seventh nonconsecutive week on top of the Billboard charts. On top of all the praise it’s been getting since she first released it, “Truth Hurts” has also drawn attention from people saying she had simply ripped off the lyrics.

To a certain extent, these people are right. One user on Twitter also came forward to ask Lizzo for credit when she tweeted a similar line that “Truth Hurts” is now best known for, and Lizzo saw fit to give her credit.

Mashable reported that Lizzo fired back when yet another plagiarism accusation was thrown her way when producers Justin and Jeremiah Raisen said it was they who had been ripped off by Lizzo. The pair said in an Instagram post that they allegedly wrote the song “Healthy” with Lizzo last April 11, 2017 in their studio.

Their claim was that major portions of the song were taken from “Healthy” and then added into the lyrics of “Truth Hurts.” The iconic line, of course, is “I just took a DNA test turns out I’m 100% that b*tch.”

They even added in the same Instagram post that “Truth Hurts” straight-up ripped off the “melody, lyrics, and chords” of “Healthy” and that when all had been said and done, Lizzo ran away with the song and released it without crediting them.

Lizzo posted on her Instagram that she was not in the studio with either Justin or Jeremiah Raisen when she was writing the song and that it was only her and Ricky Reed during that time.

To finish off, she said that if there was one person that she would credit, it would be Mina Lioness, the first person who tweeted “I did a DNA test and found out I’m 100% that b*tch” way back in February 24, 2017.

“I want to publicly thank @Lizzo and her entire management team for embracing me and reaching out,” Lioness tweeted.
