Video games for the Nintendo Switch rank high when it comes to versatility and great gameplay, no wonder that the console has seen quite a success despite coming in the heels of the much-maligned Wii U. It’s cliché but it needs to be said, Nintendo has got another winner in its hands.

Now that the holidays are coming, expect those who have not gotten into the Switch bandwagon to finally make the leap and they won’t be disappointed, especially if they are fans of a certain mustachioed plumber.

Nintendo Switch is a haven for Mario fans. There are a dozen games available that will cater to your Mario nostalgia, and they will not disappoint you, whether you like a game that you can easily play while on the road or something that you want to play at home with family or friends during the weekend.

While there certainly a lot of great games waiting to be played on the Nintendo Switch, here are some of the most outstanding that will make you grateful for getting the console.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular games in Nintendo’s portfolio. Time Magazine, an American weekly news magazine and news website published in New York City, reported that this game is also one of the best-selling video games of all time. It has become a franchise with several games being produced mainly for Nintendo’s gaming consoles since 1986. Its latest incarnation, Breath of the Wild, is released for the Wii U and the Switch and has been hailed as “the best game of its generation, maybe the best game ever,” according to Mark Serrels writing for CNET, an American media website that publishes reviews, news, articles, blogs, podcasts, and videos on technology and consumer electronics globally.

The game is also praised for redefining the open-world genre, stripping the genre back to its core elements and building the world from scratch. Gamers will also feel like they are playing from an alternate timeline, where open-world games are less quiet and have a genuine sense of adventure.

Hollow Knight

For only $15, gamers can have Hollow Knight for their Switch consoles. CNET mentioned in an article that this game is a great value for money. Dedicated gamers can spend more than 20 hours of gameplay to finish the single-player quest.

Developed by Team Cherry, Hollow Knight was initially released for personal computers in 2017. However, when the Switch emerged, Hollow Knight proved that it can also be a perfect game for the new console. Players assume the character of an insect knight, who will explore the abandoned bug kingdom of Hallownest. It's a 2D game that focuses on adventure, exploration, and combat—think Castelvania but with a bug theme and a much better soundtrack.

Color Zen

If you get tired of adventure and RPGs, you may want to try Color Zen. Games Radar, an entertainment website dedicated to video game-related news, said that players can play it as a break between intense RPGs. Color Zen is a great game for relaxing your brain because all you need to do is to use the Switch touchscreen to move around shapes. Players will have to make sure that the last color that fills the screen is the same as in the outer frame.

It might look and sound like a simple game, but things can get trickier by the moment as only certain shapes can be moved and colors might sneakily hide in layers. This game also has a hypnotic soundtrack that can glue the person to their consoles.

Pokémon Quest

This game is not a replacement for Pokémon Let’s Go, and fans must have it to add to their Pokémon games collection. Quest is a charming and relaxing game where players will have access to the original 151. These Pokémon will come with you as you battle your way across the Tumblecube Island. However, there are no Poké Balls around. Instead, players will fight other Pokémon throughout the journey, and you will have to unlock ingredients to cook stews. These tasty treats will be used to fire up the players’ customizable camp, and hopefully, this will attract new Pokémon to your party. It might not be as great as the other Pokémon games in other gaming platforms, but did we mention that Quest has Pokémon in cube form?

Tetris 99

Tetris is the ultimate nostalgia game you should have in your Switch console. Tetris 99, for its part, is for those gamers who are cutthroat competitive. This game allows players to battle their way to supremacy as they work on the exhilarating bout of matching spaces with the right block.

Tetris 99 is different from the classic one in that here players can choose to attack the weakest one. However, it retains the satisfying theme of spinning and matching blocks that is still a great way to spend a nice, quiet afternoon.
