Models go through a lot of challenges before making it into the highly-competitive world of modeling. It’s a cutthroat industry that has been known to be rife with conflict and problematic subcultures and beliefs. Those who make it in the industry do so thanks to their dedication and passion for the craft. Conversely, it’s equally true some are able to enter the industry on privilege and popularity alone, and the conflict that stirs is a big problem in itself.

Nevertheless, models make huge amounts of money between walking runways, doing covers, star in advertisements, and even getting paid off Instagram. Here are the 10 highest-paid models of 2018.

Kendall Jenner, 23, $22.5 million

Everyone knows that if it weren’t for her association with the Kardashian clan, Kendall would probably not even be modeling. Just a quick look back in time when her step-sisters enrolled her in modeling classes can show just how much more hungry and determined other models were at her age. While it’s true that she was probably too young to know what she wanted at that age, it doesn’t negate the fact that Kendall had it better when she entered the world of modeling, owing to her always-controversial but successful family.

Nonetheless, Kendall Jenner is the top earner of 2018, being worth $22 million in the modeling industry. Throughout her modeling career, which started when she was signed at 14 back in 2009, Kendall has already walked Victoria’s Secret runways, Tumblr and Tipsy in Spring 2013, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Chanel, and many others.

Karlie Kloss, 27, $13 million

According to American business magazine Forbes, Kendall is followed closely by Karlie Kloss, who is worth $13 million. Aside from modeling, Karlie also founded Kode With Klossy, which, according to IMG Models, is “a nonprofit focused on creating learning experiences and opportunities for young women that increase their confidence and inspire them to pursue their passions in a technology-driven world.”

Chrissy Teigen, 33, $11.5 million

These days, she is better known for her scrumptious recipes and food posts on Instagram, but model Chrissy Teigen has also made a name for herself prior to getting married, and even after she got married. According to Biography, her career breakthrough came in 2010 during which she was featured the “Rookie of the Year” in Sports Illustrated, which contributed to her landing other modeling gigs for Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Italian Vogue.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely, 32, $11.5 million

Tied with Teigen, Huntington-Whitely is most recognizable for her work with Victoria’s Secret, but got a brief acting stint in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” where she played a sexy cyborg temptress. But it wasn’t her only project outside of modeling. She also appeared in “Mad Max; Fury Road,” another action film that did quite well when it was released.

Gisele Bündchen, 39, $10 million

The story of Bündchen’s beginning in the modeling industry was quite a bizarre one, according to Biography, which provides profiles of popular celebrities. Bündchen had just been at a fast-food restaurant when she was spotted by a modeling agent. Back then, she was hesitant to try modeling, but after much insistence, she became a star thanks to her “high cheekbones, golden hair, and shapely curves.”

Cara Delevingne, 27, $10 million

Just like Huntington-Whitely, Cara was also part of some box office movies other than her already successful modeling career. She even had a lead role in “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” alongside co-star Dane DeHaan, and a supporting role as “Enchantress” in “Suicide Squad.”

Gigi Hadid, 24, $9.5 million

At the seventh spot, Gigi is worth $9.5 million, reports Forbes. According to Biography, she is the older sister of Bella Hadid, who is also a model. It makes sense that they’re a sister pair who went into modeling, especially since those who know them would probably be able to tell that they were the daughters of Yolanda Hadid, a former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star. She has a brother, Anwar, who is also a model.

Bella Hadid, 23, $8.5 million

Following closely after her big sis is Bella Hadid, considered “one of the most stylish and talented young models in the contemporary fashion scene,” reports Biography. She also had the honor of accepting the “Model of the Year” title last 2016 during the Model of the Year Awards.

Joan Smalls, 31, $8.5 million

At $8.5 million, Smalls ties with Bella, but this Puerto Rican supermodel has quite an illustrious career as well. She ranked twice on Forbes’ list of World’s Highest Paid Models and, according to Model Fact, “became the first Latina model to represent Estée Lauder cosmetics." Her first modeling agency was Elite Model Management, which she signed with in 2007 after graduating. After two years there, Smalls moved on to IMG Models worldwide and has since been rocking runways for four years now.

Doutzen Kroes, 34, $8 million

Last but not the least is Doutzen Kroes, who began her modeling career working for campaigns of “luxury labels including Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Escada, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Versace, Hugo Boss, Guerlain, Bottega Veneta, De Beers, GAP, Gianfranco Ferre, and Neiman Marcus,” states Vogue UK.
