Mom Gave Birth to a Miracle Baby With No Skin

Last January 1, Priscilla Maldonado from Houston, Texas, gave birth to Ja’bari Gray. Aside from weighing only three pounds (1.3 kg), Ja’bari had no skin, suffered from breathing problems, and his eyelids were fused together. "He literally from the neck down, from the front and back nothing, there was no skin and even parts of his legs, he had no skin,” Priscilla said.

However, Priscilla refused to give up on her son although she was told by the doctors that two other babies had been born in the US with the same condition – and both had died. According to Unilad, a British Internet media company and website owned by LADbible Group that provides social news and entertainment, Ja’bari is now weighing nearly 18lbs (8.1kg) after 10 months of extensive care from the hospital.

Aside from that, the newborn baby underwent a skin transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital which was the first of its kind on a baby that young. Ja’bari is showing that he’s beating the odds to survive. He can now wear clothes, cuddle his mother and be picked up for the first time in his life. Reports showed that the technicians used a biopsy of the baby’s skin to grow more of it.

“If it wasn’t his purpose to be here, he would have been gone from birth or even before birth, so he does have a purpose in this world and we never know what it is until the future. [Ja’bari] actually means fighter and warrior, and that name was given to him by his grandfather… [when] we didn’t even know what his condition was, and come to find out it fits exactly what he’s going through,” Priscilla said.

In an interview, Priscilla stated that her first physical interaction with her son was heartwarming. She shared how the surgery had changed how she can interact with him. “It was heartwarming because he was crying when he was laying down, but as soon as I picked him up and had the skin-to-skin contact and put him on my chest, he just stopped crying. Now you can kiss him, touch him, do all that stuff,” she added.
