Effective Ways to Deal With Pimples

Acne is a common skin disorder wherein the hair follicles are plugged with dead skin cells and oil. It can cause several types of blemish such as pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. There are people who are prone to acne and have a hard time getting rid of blemishes, especially pimples. Luckily, dermatologists have identified several ways to prevent pimples. 

Take note that before trying out any of these interventions against pimples, you should consult a dermatologist first.

Wash Your Face Twice Daily

Medical News Today, a website that provides health and science articles, said that it is important to remove excess dirt and oil from the skin especially in the face area. Use a mild cleanser and warm water. After this, you can apply some oil-free moisturizer so that the skin will not become too dry. Over-washing the face might also cause the skin to dry, which can worsen the pimple condition.

Do Not Scrub Too Hard

When washing your face, avoid scrubbing too hard. Some might say that it is helpful to use some rough cloth pads or washcloths when washing the face. However, this can cause irritation in the skin, which can lead to inflammation and make acne breakouts worse. Use a gentle cleanser and clean hands when washing your face.

Always Keep Your Hair Clean

Long hair will touch your face and its excess oil can travel to your facial skin and worsen acne breakouts. This is why you should wash your hair regularly. Refrain from using too many products like hair gel or spray that can get onto your face. These products might clog pores and cause breakouts.

Stop Popping or Picking at Pimples

It might be tempting to squeeze your pimples to get rid of them. However, popping or picking them can result in inflammation and scarring. To reduce blemishes, use topical treatment and just have patience. Pimples usually go away if left on their own.

Consult a Dermatologist

Before trying products on your skin consult a professional first. Topical antibiotics can be effective in preventing the growth of P acnes bacteria on your skin. Drugs that treat inflammation acne include erythromycin and clindamycin, which are only available by prescription.

Check Your Diet

There are certain foods that aggravate your acne breakouts. Although health experts are still not certain about how food and acne are linked to one another, there is a growing body of research that suggests that foods trigger acne in some people. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, foods that have high glycemic index might increase the risk of developing acne or make it worse.

Be Wary of Your Skincare Products

There are skincare products that contain ingredients that clog the pores. Medical News Today said that there are products that should only be used for specific skin types. Some are only intended for dry skin while some don’t contain oil and are usually called “non-comedogenic.”
